Madrid breathes life on every corner. Few cities in the world have the pace and atmosphere of Madrid. Its perfect location in the center of the country and its unbeatable transportation network makes it the ideal place for any student, both national and international.
Madrid has prestigious universities that welcome students of all nationalities. Spanish is also one of the most spoken and studied languages in the world, and in Madrid, we can find numerous academies that offer Spanish classes, perfect for any foreign student to learn the beautiful Castilian language.
But after attending class, we need to consolidate our knowledge, studying in the best possible environment. We can choose to study at home or in a library.
Perfect libraries in the center of Madrid to focus.
Madrid has numerous libraries where, in addition to studying, we can access all kinds of reference materials. Below, we list some of the main libraries in the center of the capital.
Benito Pérez Galdós Municipal Library. Located at numbers 9 and 11 Conde Duque Street, its excellent transport links, as it is close to several metro stations and bus stops, make it an ideal location for all those who study or live in the center of Madrid.
Iván de Vargas Municipal Public Library. Located at number 5 San Justo Street, in a former mansion. It has a reading room specializing in documentary collections about Madrid and currently houses a four-year deposit from the Centro Sefarad: the Isaac Revah Library on Jewish culture, society, literature, etc. It also houses an outstanding collection of fanzines, made up of donations from artists who have participated in fanzine presentations and festivals held at the library.
Mario Vargas Llosa Municipal Public Library. The Mario Vargas Llosa Library was inaugurated by the Nobel Prize winner for Literature after whom it is named on November 17, 2014. It is located at 4 Barceló Street, very close to the Tribunal and Alonso Martínez metro stations.
Quiet cafes for studying in a good atmosphere
And if you also want a drink while you study, a cafe is the ideal place for you. Below are some “cafés” where you can enjoy a good study environment:
– Federal Café. This establishment has large windows that provide great natural lighting and cozy decor.
Federal Café has two locations: one at Plaza de las Comendadoras, 9, and the other at Plaza del Conde de Barajas, 3, near the Opera Metro station.
– Café del Art. Located in the Latina neighborhood, it has a main room with tables of different sizes, and another smaller interior room called “the library” because it’s full of books. During the week, they allow you to work on your computer. It is located at number 9 Plaza de Cascorro, near the Tirso de Molina metro station.
Outdoor Spaces to Unwind and Relax
And after studying, we all need a few moments to relax and unwind, so that our bodies and minds can rest.
And to clear our minds, there’s nothing better than a good walk outdoors. Madrid has numerous green spaces, such as Retiro Park, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2021, or El Capricho Park in Alameda de Osuna, open only on weekends, where we can see its famous bunker, a Civil War site. This shelter, approximately 2,000 square meters, located 15 meters underground, was built in the park around 1937, taking advantage of its remote location from the war front, its good communications, and the trees conducive to camouflage.
Leisure Plans for Students. Relax after studying
In addition to excellent public transportation for getting around the city, Madrid is also very well connected to other nearby towns. Madrid is the perfect starting point for trips to Toledo, Segovia, Aranjuez, etc., allowing you to combine leisure and study while in the capital.
